The Mount

Hob Uid: 252061
Location :
Buckinghamshire
Beaconsfield
Grid Ref : SU9554090890
Summary : Bowl Barrow
More information : (SU 95549089) The Mount (NAT) (1)

The Mount, in Wilton Park, is a tumulus. (2)

"The Mount" (name verified) is a circular mound overgrown with
trees and scrub, situated in a plantation once a part of
Wilton Park, now a golf course. It measures c 23.0m in diameter
and 2.8m high, the summit being 3.0m in diameter. At a height
of 1.0m there are traces of a berm around the mound.

The possibility that it is a barrow cannot be dismissed but
the name, and situation in old parkland of Wilton Park, a large
18th c mansion, suggest a mount contemporary with the house.

Published survey (25") revised. (3)
